The '''''Spoon River''''' was a literal river which had to be crossed in order to enter Maquon, as well as ran through most of Knox and Fulton counties. August's childhood homes would both heavily feature time spent on and around this river. Much of the surrounding institutions would name themselves for it, such as their highschool (SRVHS Spoon River Valley Highschool)and a local community college (Spoon River College). August would first be introduced to the river through camping there. This was3 at the first property they would live in upon moving with their mother into Daniel's house as a child. A long winding dirt road through the backyard corn fields, woodland, and pastures contained the crook of the river which housed this frequent spot used in their early childhood by both their own family and friends. August would learn and do most of their fishing and bank-poling on this river, shown by his Step father Daniel Schaub. August would be attacked by a beaver one year and become wary of the animal because of it. August would later live down at the end of the road which would flood annually as Winter became Spring. This would be deep enough to take a boat on, covering multiple properties and fields as the river was not only not bordering their property; but well over a mile from any of it at all. This would typically cause them to miss school unless they walked along the train tracks to town and caught the school bus there. The river would be significantly shallower most of August's later life, at least during the summer months. Though they aren't able to verify after 23 so this information could be inaccurate.
