Linda Johnson
Linda Johnson is August Casso's grandmother — the only blood August had. Operative word being, had.
The One Who Cared
[edit | edit source]Linda was the only member of the family who called, wrote, and kept in contact. August put it plainly in the letter they wrote to her after months of silence:
- "I love you, grandma. The fact you call, write, just interact with me is more than literally anyone else in our family does. You're the only one who cares."
That letter was written to quell her anxieties after August spent roughly three months out of contact while surviving a Wisconsin winter with thirty dollars to their name. Her worry, August wrote, came only from how much she cared — and they wanted her to know the worst of it was already behind them.
Childhood
[edit | edit source]Linda was August's favourite relative to visit growing up. She bought them books, let them watch television, and let them play the SNES — "just the best family I could ask for." August spent most weekends at her house during the school year, and almost the whole of every summer, because their parents worked long hours.
She was also the family's holiday constant: Linda would come and spend Christmas Eve into Christmas Day at their home, until her health no longer allowed it.
