Maquon

From Augwiki

Maquon, IL is a village around which August spent most of their childhood (ages 4-17)and early/mid 20s. It at one point featured a gas station but that has since closed, so now all that remains is a church, park, fire dept, post office (defunct), two bars (one defunct inoften), library, and restaurant. The population is under 200 inside the village proper.

Daniel Schaub would also be raised around Maquon most of his own life, attending the same school district that August would finish out primary and secondary school in (Spoon River Valley CUSD).

Despite being in Valley's district, Maquon resident's children were actually in Knox not Fulton county. Though August's first childhood home was in Famington School's district, despite only being within a mile of the second one in Valley's. This move would cause tension between the child August and his parents as well as make him lose faith in God.

  • The town would have a yearly small celebration in lieu of a county fair, in addition to scenic drive stalls being set up during said time.
  • Both August's niece and friend, Zoe, would die in the town. Both deaths significantly affected August.
  • While homeless as a child, August would frequently stay at either the Bernand's, Strang's, or Zerphey's. He would make the Zerphey's the final stop before going into his second stint of being homeless later in life as well.
  • August would be falsely accused of sexual assault while in town; and after their innocence was proven the woman who had lied would never return to it.
  • August's first night 'hanging out with cooler kids' would be overnight in town while ding-dong-ditching
